L'invention de l'Autre

Abstract : Invention of the Other After the XX th century's disasters the relation to the Other became the criteria of contemporary morality. Western democracies preferred to hide the subject of cultural identity during a certain time to avoid controversies and to develop instead a strong civic conscience as a guarantee of peaceful relations between communities. Today we paradoxically witness the return of the questioning on identity on different levels. Despite the increasing number of interactions due to globalization, there is an overall felling on the fact that we are not creating a global culture. At the same time, many researchers in different fields describe nowadays various metamorphosis of identity be it in biology, sociology or psychology. Will these metamorphosis lead to the emergency of plural identity among what Zygmunt Bauman calls the "liquid society"?
