L’effacement et le dénigrement des femmes dans le Décaméron d’Antoine Vérard (1485)

Abstract : The first printed edition of the Decameron, which was translated by Laurent de Premierfait and realised by Antoine Vérard in 1485, is the result of a hard modification of Boccaccio’s book. Such a reshuffle was produced on the basis both of the manuscript tradition and of the will of the bookseller. This paper presents a survey of the transformation stressing especially the role of women as main addressee and character (especially Ghismonda, I.4, and Madonna Filippa, VI.7). In this text, which was read til almost 1545, there is an attitude quite different from Boccaccio’s one, because the role of women is finally depreciated.
