Résumé

This reading of Kleist's Die Marquise von O... draws from Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok's notion of the crypt in order to explain how trauma operates in this story. Rape, pregnancy, gestation, and dreams are approached through close attention to Kleist's literary language.
