Abstract : This article deals with an ERASMUS exchange program preparation for medical students going to France. This article describes a pilot blog for analyzing and treating common difficulties encountered by students going abroad. This pilot blog was designed as a “journal of astonishment”. Exchange students post specific socio-linguistic peculiarities, as encountered by them abroad, onto the “journal of astonishment” pilot blog. For this article we address one specific peculiarity: the comprehension of eponyms in everyday life and specific medical contexts. How could we call the exchange student’s attention to this particularity that can be especially troublesome abroad? We will show our approach using samples from journals of astonishment illustrating the importance of eponym use, particularly with regard to product eponyms and common eponyms, and finally proposing educational approaches aiming to prepare our exchange students for their stay abroad.
