Abstract : This article is based on a frequent experience made by language teachers: the students ask unexpected questions regarding the language and its fonctions. The teacher might not have immediatly the precise answer and has to make a decision: he could postpone the answer or he could answer directly, without any preparation, in a kind of pedagogical improvisation. This article deals with such unexpected questions in the foreign language class and the effects on the teachers, his reactions and his pedagogical answer.
