Plus ou moins open : Les revues de rang A en Sciences de l’information et de la communication

Abstract : According to a recent study, almost half of the articles published by French researchers are disseminated in open access, deposited in open archives, as HAL, or via open access journals, without paid subscription. In this dynamic environment, higher education and research evaluation agencies have a role to play, through their assessment criteria and tools. Depending on their approach and methodology, these institutions can create opportunities for the development of open access, by encouraging the sharing of research results, or slow down the process by maintaining the usual criteria, including the bibliometric evaluation based on the ranking of publications. Our study proposes an analysis of the information and communication sciences in France, from the updated list of A-rated journals published at the end of 2017 and under the aspect of open access. The approach is exploratory. We try to assess our own standards and practices as a research community in relation to the new research policy in favor of open access and open science. 38% of the A-rated journals in our field are in open access. But these journals represent only 4% of all open access journals in the field of information and communication sciences.
