Lille-Sud, un quartier mosaïque. De l'image stigmatisée d'un quartier à la construction de micro-territoires par ses jeunes habitants.

Abstract : From the sociological study of a district: that of Lille-Sud, the proposed thesis questions the effects of stigmatization in a double dimension; namely, territorialized and on the person. Two hypotheses constitute the heart of the analysis: the district of Lille-Sud is a neighborhood stigmatized by the action of "moral entrepreneurs" identified as media, police, social workers and non-inhabitants; and these processes of stigmatization help to intensify the territorial attachment of the young people studied by exacerbating the phenomena of appropriation and / or claim at the level of micro-territories, illustrating the idea of ​​"mosaic neighborhood". The three concepts of territory, youth and stigma guide the survey and feed different analyzes. The approach, which is largely qualitative, involves the content analysis of a body of local press articles, observation and semi-structured interviews with alleged stigmatizing contributors, that is, the police and the media. social workers, but also among 64 young people aged 13 to 25. The thesis also mobilizes a quantitative aspect, by the distribution of questionnaires to 100 non-resident people. The main results show, on the one hand, how the district of Lille-Sud is "labeled" in a negative way by the set of actors identified as "entrepreneurs of morality", confirming the hypothesis of "internalized ghetto"; on the other hand, what are the negotiations / adaptations of young people who invest and / or claim the urban space (neighborhood or "micro-territory") as land claims. The study aims to show that, behind territorial issues, it is first of all social questions for young people eager to integrate into society
