Lille-Sud, un quartier mosaïque. De l'image stigmatisée d'un quartier à la construction de micro-territoires par ses jeunes habitants.

Abstract : From the sociological study of a district: that of Lille-Sud, the proposed thesis questions the effects of stigmatization in a double dimension; namely, territorialized and on the person. Two hypotheses constitute the heart of the analysis: the district of Lille-Sud is a neighborhood stigmatized by the action of "moral entrepreneurs" identified as media, police, social workers and non-inhabitants; and these processes of stigmatization help to intensify the territorial attachment of the young people studied by exacerbating the phenomena of appropriation and / or claim at the level of micro-territories, illustrating the idea of "mosaic neighborhood". The three concepts of territory, youth and stigma guide the survey and feed different analyzes. The approach, which is largely qualitative, involves the content analysis of a body of local press articles, observation and semi-structured interviews with alleged stigmatizing contributors, that is, the police and the media. social workers, but also among 64 young people aged 13 to 25. The thesis also mobilizes a quantitative aspect, by the distribution of questionnaires to 100 non-resident people. The main results show, on the one hand, how the district of Lille-Sud is "labeled" in a negative way by the set of actors identified as "entrepreneurs of morality", confirming the hypothesis of "internalized ghetto"; on the other hand, what are the negotiations / adaptations of young people who invest and / or claim the urban space (neighborhood or "micro-territory") as land claims. The study aims to show that, behind territorial issues, it is first of all social questions for young people eager to integrate into society
